Arthroscopic Meniscus Repair

Technique:

The Surgery is done through 2-3 small incisions and examining and repairing the tissue. Meniscus repair is an arthroscopic procedure with minimally invasive method to repair torn knee cartilage in which the torn segment of the meniscus is removed and the torn edges are sutured together, which allows them to heal properly.

What to Expect-Day of Surgery:

This is an outpatient surgery to be performed at one of the surgi-centers where Dr. Ahluwalia operates. The surgery is about 1-2 hours and is done under general and local anesthesia. Your anesthesiologist will discuss this with you prior to the surgery.

What to Expect-After Surgery:

After arthroscopic meniscus repair, the patient generally has a cry cuff, a knee brace and also cold packs that are used to reduce swelling. You will go home with a prescription for pain medicine during this time, pumping the ankle up and down is recommended to improve blood flow in the leg. Specific post operative instructions will be reviewed prior to discharge straight leg raises in the brace immediately after surgery. You will return with a follow up with Dr. Ahluwalia within 7-10 ten days, and at that visit, a decision will be made regarding when to start physical therapy.
