Patella Fracture Fixation
Technique:
Restoring function and stability within the knee are important to allowing patients to walk and move normally after a fracture. This treatment involves the use of surgical hardware to realign fractured bones and hold them in place.
What to Expect-Day of Surgery:
This is an inpatient surgery; the average stay in the hospital is 1-2 days. The procedure takes typically 2-3 hours, depending on the complexity. Usually general (or nerve block) anesthesia will be used. Your anesthesiologist will discuss this with you prior to the surgery.
What to Expect-After Surgery:
After the surgery you will be taken to the recovery room and be given appropriate pain medication prescribed by to make you comfortable. You will begin physical therapy right away and Dr. Ahluwalia will provide you with specific exercises to perform while still in the hospital and also when you go home. You will follow up with Dr. Ahluwalia in 10-14 days to after surgery, and at the visit further physical therapy activity and restrictions will be discussed.
